The Osaka Liaison Conference for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was organized in 1984, aimed to disseminate the spirit of the declaration as well as other international human rights instruments, and organize several activities in order to help implement it.
The main activities of the Conference are as follows:
1) human rights education by holding seminars and symposia;
-the Conference has organized several activities, such as holding the monthly Successive Study Meeting (The 243th meeting was organized on October 16, 2002);
2) human rights awareness-raising through publishing monthly newsletter (Japanese) and distributing original posters on Human Rights Week as well as on the Japanese Constitution Week every year;
3) holding mass meetings by inviting guest speakers from abroad every December in
commemoration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and organizing campaigns to lead Japan to accede to international human rights instruments adopted by the UN;
4) requesting the national governments and local governments to take measures for the promotion and protection of human rights.
The Osaka Liaison Conference for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights consists of 120 member organizations including local governments, trade unions, teachers’ associations, local human rights NGOs, universities and associations of private corporations combating discrimination against Buraku people.
